Methodology
Carbon estimation pipeline — IPCC Tier 2 allometric approach
1. Biomass Estimation
Above-ground biomass from Sentinel-2 NDVI + Landsat band ratios calibrated against field plots. AGB (Mg/ha) = f(NDVI, BA, H).
2. Carbon Conversion
Apply IPCC biomass-to-carbon fraction (CF = 0.47 for tropical, 0.51 for boreal). Total carbon pool = AGB × CF + BGB × 0.25.
3. CO₂ Equivalence
Convert C to CO₂e using molecular weight ratio (44/12). Uncertainty quantified via Monte Carlo simulation (n=10,000 runs).
